What you need to know

• A car you can drive still has its lights on — that is the only way to tell it from the wrecks. Press E beside one to get in, and again to get out.
• Fuel is very limited. Almost no car has enough to reach the objective, so a car is a head start, not a way out. A petrol station fills a tank, and the cans on its forecourt go where the station cannot.
• A bite can leave you bleeding or infected. Bleeding costs you slowly until you bandage it. An infection kills you in five minutes unless you find an anti-bite kit — the countdown is on your HUD, and pharmacies, chemists and hospitals are where the kits are.
• Using anything takes a few seconds of standing still, and being hit interrupts it. You keep the item, but you do not keep the seconds.
• A firecracker does no damage at all. It is louder than a rifle and every zombie who hears it walks to where it landed — which is the cheapest way past a street you cannot fight through. Throw it somewhere you are not going.
• The clock runs sixty times fast — a day is 24 minutes, and it starts at 8am. It gets properly dark around 10pm, and between 1am and 3am you will not see much without a light, and they are faster. You start with four hours of torch, which is not enough for a whole night; there are more in shops, in patrol cars and on the soldiers.
• Police cars and dead soldiers are worth searching — that's where the better weapons, the armour and the grenades are. Corner shops have bottles, if you know what to do with one.
• The fuse starts when you pull the pin, not when you throw. Hold G for a second and the grenade goes off as it lands — hold it too long and it goes off in your hand.
• A molotov makes almost no noise and leaves a fire where it breaks. It's for the street you'd rather not walk down yet; a grenade is for the crowd already on you.
• Cars burn, and some of them go up. Shoot one next to a crowd, or ram it and get out. Whatever is parked alongside might catch too.
• Get to the flag at your destination and hold it until a chopper can lift you out.
